Press Release Summary = The founder of a leading problem eating and weight control
charity has been awarded a university funding package to conduct a detailed academic
study into the West\'s dieting obsessions.

Press Release Body = Anti-dieting campaigner Malcolm Evans has been awarded academic
funding to research why the West\'s dieting obsession continues to grow whilst
dieting itself is increasingly attacked as an ineffective means of lasting weight
control.

The three year project at Manchester Metropolitan University will consider dieting
from a community psychology perspective, seeking to help develop the substantial
societal mind shifts regarding food, eating and body image which Evans believes are
necessary to break the grip of fad dieting.

Founder of the non-profit research charity, The Weight Foundation, his
investigations to date indicate that dieting comes in various and pervasive forms,
trapping many within a never ending cycle of food worries.

Alongside the development of new insights to frame lasting interventions, he is
testing his theories of a typology of dieting surrounding issues of constant
self-denial and socio-cultural imperatives to stay permanently on the dieting roller
coaster.

Evans will shortly be issuing a call for participants in the fresh study, which will
seek to develop detailed narratives over time to reveal the true drivers behind our
fixations with short-term crash dieting and rejections of longer-term moderation.
